Review: BSG 4.08: Sine Qua Non

Repost. Original Post Date: 05/31/2008 BSG Ep. 4.08: "Sine Qua Non" Plot: Roslin and the rebel cylon baseship's sudden disappearance creates repercussions throughout the Fleet, especially for the Adamas. Viewing Commentary: Six trying to project while she was dying was interesting. And it was touching that Cottle offered his hand to her as she was dying. Wow. Didn't realize Adama hated Zarek that much. I say hate since his feelings seem to go beyond mere distrust or dislike. Naturally the Quorum is upset when Lee acknowledges that his father won't recognize Zarek as President. Zarek is rightfully pissed off, though...

Emmys and DW

I was happy with Battlestar Galactica getting some Emmy nominations, even if they weren't in the "major" categories. Same for Stargate Atlantis getting a nod. Considering that science fiction, fantasy, and other similar style shows get short shrift by the academy these genre's actually did pretty well considering the number of noms Lost got. There were many who got nominations in various categories: Smallville, Surface, Supernatural, etc. Heck, even the Sci Fi Channel movie Mammoth got a nomination! So I can't really complain. It would be nice for the academy to admit science fiction shows are equally as dramatic as...

French BSG fic

Heh. I read my first non-english BSG fanfic today. It was the french fanfic, Pilote de Viper. I admit my french sucks but I did read through the posts in their entirety before using a translator to see if what I thought the story was saying was true or not. It was. Hee. It was fun reading, even if it wasn't any better or worse than the typical BSG fics I read amongst the english speaking fans. Hmm, which language to look for next... Going offline until the afternoon thunderstorm passes. Ah, Arizona. How I love it when we get...

Toasters, Atlantis, and Asteroids

Well I seem to have some extra time today since the bosses decided to let everyone go home early. It feels odd considering most places I've worked made its employees work the day before and the day after a holiday like the Fourth of July. So now I get a four day weekend, which is cool. I'll spending most of that time down in Phoenix with the family anyway. So tonight we've the 2nd Annual Golden Toaster Awards over at Hangar Deck 5. Should be fun with RDM and Ms Ron participating. It'll be fun to see who won in...

Fandom stuff

I think it is pretty neat that Battlestar Galactica won a Peabody award. Yay, Galactica! 🙂 meyerlemon's "The Official Safety of the Herd Mary Sue Challenge" is now very much a reality. Heh. The community for the challenge is suechallenge. This is the basic challenge: To write a based-on-you character into your favorite universe. See the comm for further details. Yes it's silly, but what the hey, right? For me, the fandom will be BSG, assuming I actually get some time to write the mary sue. I intend for it to be a truly horrific mary sue (but with decent...

Miscellaneous stuff…

Finally this crazy week is over and Spring Break has begun. Now I just have to decide whether I want to take part in one of the 5 week summer programs to Europe or China. Choices are China (Beijing), Poland (Warsaw), England (London), France (Tolouse), Germany, Greece, Italy or a mixed London-Paris exchange. I should probably apply for the London-Paris or the London ones since either will fill out the last of my technical electives for graduation but Greece, Poland, and China also have drawn my interest as well. Then again maybe I should apply to all of them since...

BSG Review “Sacrifice”

Better late than never, right? SPOILERS FOR BSG's "Sacrifice" behind the cut... I was surprised that I actually liked this episode given what I had read in spoilers. (Yes, I'm a spoiler-ho.) While not the greatest BSG episode out there this one was a bit tighter in it's writing and plot despite some of the contrivances that we, as viewers, were required to accept. Probably the only that was a bit bothersome about this episode (and admittedly some of the previous ones) was the idea that people have so much free time that they're writing up conspiracy theories on newsletters,...
