Review: BSG 4.08: Sine Qua Non

Repost. Original Post Date: 05/31/2008 BSG Ep. 4.08: "Sine Qua Non" Plot: Roslin and the rebel cylon baseship's sudden disappearance creates repercussions throughout the Fleet, especially for the Adamas. Viewing Commentary: Six trying to project while she was dying was interesting. And it was touching that Cottle offered his hand to her as she was dying. Wow. Didn't realize Adama hated Zarek that much. I say hate since his feelings seem to go beyond mere distrust or dislike. Naturally the Quorum is upset when Lee acknowledges that his father won't recognize Zarek as President. Zarek is rightfully pissed off, though...

VLD Season 3 Quick Thoughts (Spoilers)

Warning! The following post contains some spoilers for season 3 of Voltron Legendary Defender Do not click Read More if you're trying to avoid spoilers Voltron Season 3 Love the return of the show, even if the season is a short one, episode wise. Mainly this post is to get some thoughts off my mind but not blow up the twitter feed with the spoilery spammage of scintillating story that season 3 has sparked. Quick points: Musical chairs with the lions has commenced, without the music. I really like this version of Lotor, reminds me of GoLion's Sincline before getting...

Comps, Life, and TV

Computer My computer's power supply died the other day, which was both a relief and annoying. A relief, since for a brief moment I thought I'd lost the hard drive and all my unsaved files for the week on it. Annoyance, since I had to go get another PS and then install it. But everything seems fine now, no other issues with the comp. Life Learned my contract job with be ending a month earlier than planned (November instead of December), which sucks, so I'm already back to the job search for another job, contract or otherwise. That's one thing...

Review: Torchwood: Miracle Day 4.02 “Rendition”

Warning: spoilers under the cut! Rendition [Episode 2 (Torchwood 4.02)]   As much as I praised the first episode, “The New World”, I found myself concerned about some aspects of Torchwood: Miracle Day while watching the second episode, “Rendition”. Most of the concern is directed more at the American characters and their direction than anything else. Combined with the somewhat quirky plot of the episode, I find myself mildly concerned for the remaining episodes. Still it is early in the series run, so I can put aside my concerns for now in the hopes that the remainder will result in...

Review: Eureka 4.11 “Liftoff”

Warning: Spoilers below the cut! Eureka 4.11 “Liftoff”   Plot: Relationships are tested when an inadvertent launch strands Fargo and Zane in orbit.   Viewing Points:   The bride is having cold feet. I knew the bride was SARAH.Thanks Henry, now we know Jack and Alison are going to have some disagreement this episode for sure. Disengaging aerospace engineer mode. Otherwise I’d never get past harping about the rocketry to enjoy the episode.Never really thought Zane would freak out like that in space. Not surprised Fargo is totally geeking out at achieving a lifelong dream (even if it was not the...

Review: Torchwood: Miracle Day – The New World

Warning: spoilers below the cut! The New World [Episode 1 (Torchwood 4.01)]   A joint production between the BBC and Starz, Torchwood: Miracle Day feels like a natural extension of the Torchwood series and not an Americanized version of the show. For that I am grateful. While Torchwood has been somewhat questionable at times with their stories and plots (particularly series 1’s more puerile and/or soap opera moments) so far Miracle Day is maintaining the level quality established in Children of Earth. Granted this is only the first episode, but so far I’m pleased with what I’ve seen.   Plot...

Science Fiction & Fantasy Musings

Movies So some interesting (I think) science fiction movies appear to be on their way. Eve, if they're cheesy at least it means somebody in Hollywood is trying to be somewhat original ([!]). Battleship- A science fiction twisted version of the classic board game. Okay, not original in that it is a game but what the hell, better than remakes of movies I saw as a kid, and perpetually remaking Batman every other month. Don't get me wrong, the remake of Clash of the Titans was decent (particularly the f/x) but otherwise...meh. Cowboys and Aliens- I give credit for the...

Passing thoughts

Some brief thoughts... The Law of Nines by Terry Goodkind:  Thumbs up. And not just because I got a new hardcover copy for a ridiculously low price. I'll post a review for the book in the coming days. (Yes, a genuine, non-snarky review.) Stargate Universe: If they can keep up the improvement seen in last Friday's episode, they might just have drawn me back in. Maybe. Note to self: finish typing and post reviews for SGU. Fringe: Enjoyed the retro look for last week's episode. Heh. Clash of the Titans: Thinking about seeing it, if nothing more than to compare...

Stargate Universe “Darkness”

Warning: Spoilers Below the Cut! Stargate Universe Ep 4 “Darkness” Plot Summary: The Destiny’s power reserves become dangerously low. Viewing Commentary: Rush seems a bit jumpy. Probably need to go decaf or something.Yum, powdered food paste.Mathboy ad he upbeat morning meeting.Me thinks Rush is headed for a breakdown.Eli does vlogs (aka meet the characters)*sigh* More old scifi references. Look, as a sci-fi aficionado I like old science fiction shows, movies, books, etc. That doesn’t mean I go spouting randomly about them.Ah the first meeting of the “We Hate Rush Club”. Nice. Colonel passes on Rush’s warning not to turn things...

Stargate Universe “Air, Pt 3”

Warning; Spoilers Under the Cut! Stargate Universe Ep 3 “Air, Part 3” Plot Summary: The refugees have 12 hours to find the means to their survival on a barren desert world. Viewing Commentary: Kino over the dune.I like the newly designed Stargates. The CGI is certainly excellent and somewhat improved over the original.Science lesson lady. Hee. I’m having flashbacks to the days when a show was considered “educational” by the FCC if they spewed out a few minutes of science.I still say Lt. Scott is an idiot for wearing black. Bet he’ll end up as red as a lobster by...
